1. First, Know the Difference: Self-Drive Rental vs. Chauffeur-Driven Charter
There are two main ways to arrange a vehicle in Xinjiang: self-drive rental, where you rent only the vehicle and drive it yourself, requiring a valid driver's license in your own name; and chauffeur-driven charter, where the vehicle comes with a driver and is priced by the number of days used, ideal for visitors who prefer not to drive, are unfamiliar with the roads, or plan to travel high-altitude and border routes. In our "Vehicle Products" section, each vehicle model clearly states whether a driver is included — confirm this before placing your order.
2. How Pricing Works
Pricing is calculated as number of days used × daily rate. Days are counted from the pickup date to the return date; for example, picking up on October 1 and returning on October 4 counts as 3 days. After you select dates on the page, the number of days and total rental cost are displayed in real time.
3. Deposit and Overtime Fees
Self-drive models require a vehicle deposit (amounts are shown on each product page). The deposit is collected by the store at pickup and refunded after the vehicle is inspected and found undamaged at return; it is not included in this online payment. Chauffeur-driven charter products do not require a vehicle deposit. Returning later than the agreed time incurs an hourly overtime fee, usually with a 60-minute grace period; please refer to the product page for details.
4. Fuel Policy
For self-drive models, fuel costs are borne by the renter, and the fuel level at return should match the level at pickup. For chauffeur-driven charter products, fuel is generally included in the daily rate, but a daily mileage cap may apply, with excess mileage charged per kilometer.
5. Pickup and Return
Vehicles can be picked up at Urumqi Diwopu Airport or downtown stores. At pickup, please bring all required documents, inspect the vehicle together with staff and take photos for your records (body scratches, tires, fuel level, odometer), then sign the rental agreement once everything is confirmed. At return, the vehicle is likewise inspected in person, and the deposit refund is processed once no new damage is confirmed.
6. Classic Driving Routes
- Northern Xinjiang Loop: Urumqi — Sayram Lake — Yining — Nalati — Bayanbulak — Duku Highway
- Southern Xinjiang Route: Urumqi — Korla — Aksu — Kashgar — Tashkurgan (Pamir Plateau)
- Duku Highway: Dushanzi to Kuqa, open seasonally; check that year's official opening notice
Xinjiang spans a vast north-south distance, and daily drives are generally long. We recommend planning 300–500 km per day to avoid driver fatigue.
